Stump Grinding by Neighborhood in Hermitage, TN

Hermitage is not one place. A stump on a 200-foot lot off Old Hickory Boulevard and a stump beside new concrete on Lebanon Road are different jobs, priced differently.

The 37076 map, and how fast each end of it runs

We are based in the middle of Hermitage, which puts the old core within a few minutes of the truck. Hermitage Hills is three minutes. Tulip Grove, Heritage Hills and the Reserve at Stone Hall are five or six. Sunset Oaks, Walden Woods, Fleetwood and Hermitage Woods sit around seven. That band is where we can most often add a job to a day already in progress, and where a small stump does not have to wait for a route.

The south and east end takes longer. Villages of Riverwood and Magnolia Farms run eight minutes, Aarons Cress eleven, and Towering Oaks, Lake Park and Meadows of Seven Points twelve to thirteen down toward Percy Priest. Nothing about that is far in absolute terms, but we batch the lake end onto set days rather than making two trips, so booking a couple of days of flexibility on that side gets you a better slot and sometimes a better price.

Wherever you are in the zip code, a photo sent on a weekday morning comes back with a firm figure the same day, and anything hanging over a roof or a driveway gets looked at immediately rather than queued.

Hermitage skips a generation, and it shows in the work

Most Middle Tennessee suburbs built steadily for fifty years. Hermitage did not. There is a thick ring of 1960s and 1970s brick ranch on deep lots along Old Hickory Boulevard, Lebanon Pike and Tulip Grove Road, then a wave of 2010s and 2020s slab construction on Chandler Road, New Hope Road and Lebanon Pike, with comparatively little in between.

So a crew here is doing one of two very different jobs on any given day. In the older ring it is a sixty-year-old silver maple or water oak at the back of a long lot, behind an aging fence, producing an enormous amount of material and needing an honest conversation about depth and chip disposal. In the new builds it is a six-year-old warranty tree that never took, sitting inches from fresh concrete, an irrigation lateral and an unmarked meter lid, where the entire skill is not damaging the things around it.

The machines differ, the pricing differs and the finish standard differs. Neither is harder than the other. They are just not the same trade, and a contractor who only knows one of them will show up wrong for the other.

Covenants on one side of town, none on the other

Roughly half the neighborhoods on this page sit under an association with a view about debris, contractor parking and what a finished yard looks like. Magnolia Farms, Heritage Hills, Aarons Cress and the Reserve at Stone Hall all fall in that category, and Villages of Riverwood goes further, because an adopted Metro design overlay actually governs street-tree spacing and rear canopy along the Stones River.

Fleetwood, Hermitage Hills and the older parts of Tulip Grove have none of that. Nobody is inspecting your yard, and that genuinely changes what a job costs, because leaving the shavings on site is a real option rather than a violation waiting to happen.

We ask which side of that line you are on before quoting, and we build the answer into the price rather than discovering it when the pile is already on your lawn. Every job in Davidson County also gets a Tennessee 811 locate request from us, three working days ahead, and a direct question about the private lines nobody marks: irrigation, invisible fence and low-voltage lighting.

Questions about how we cover Hermitage

My subdivision is not on this list. Do you still come out?

Yes. These fourteen are the ones we work most and know street by street, but the service area is the whole of 37076 and the surrounding communities. Hermitage Point, Hermitage Meadows, Woodhaven, the Highlands of Stone Hall and the smaller pockets off Central Pike all get the same treatment. Tell us the cross street and we will tell you what we know about the ground there.

Which part of Hermitage can you get to soonest?

The older core off Old Hickory Boulevard and Tulip Grove Road, simply because it is closest to where we park. If you are in Hermitage Hills or Tulip Grove and the job is small, there is a decent chance we can fit it into an afternoon this week. The lake end toward Seven Points and Lake Park runs on batched days, so those are usually booked a few days ahead.

Do prices differ by neighborhood?

Not by zip code, but genuinely by conditions, and neighborhoods cluster by condition. A large cherrybark oak wedged into a Towering Oaks side yard costs more than a dead builder maple in Magnolia Farms, because it is more wood, harder wood, worse access and a haul-off. What does not vary is how the number is arrived at: species, diameter, access, depth and what happens to the material.

Can you do several houses on the same street in one visit?

That is the single best way to buy this work and we encourage it. Most of the fixed cost is the trip and the unload, so a second and third stump on the same block come in well below the first. Streets built in one season tend to lose trees in one season too, which is why group bookings are common in the newer subdivisions and along the old Bradford pear streets.
